Why are the ranges so wide?
Costa Rica has a peculiarity: two people living 200 meters apart can spend US$1,800/month and US$5,500/month respectively. The decisions that move the needle most:
- Housing: 3x difference between renting 'like a local' and 'like a tourist.'
- Food: local sodas and tico market vs. restaurants and imported supermarket.
- Health: CAJA + INS vs. premium international insurance.
- Car: Suzuki vs. imported SUV.
